At the time of writing this, I don't remember ever being so excited for an album release. When this was initially released, I was in absolute bliss! Pinokiwo's first [and only]
full album...!? Coming in 2024!? It was a dream come true! From the second it was announced, I knew I was going to get my hands on it by any means nessisary.
However, there were a few things I did not expect: Uyuni doing a vague call for fanart to submit and the addition of Adachi Kakoujyo (artist well known for her involvement in
promotional images for bands such as Guruguru Eigakan!). Well, let me tell you, I submitted that fanart within like 10 minutes or less in very... VERY choppy Japanese. I did get a reply back too
in a pretty short amount of time, asking if it was okay to use. How the hell could I say no? Again, in very broken Japanese I happily replied. This is all leading up to the fact none of the fanart was
used-- which I can understand why in a certain sense (irt crediting, ect)-- but this did land my name in the booklet under special thanks along with a group of others. I actually didn't know this until a
[later] friend of mine reached out asking if I was the 'Brie' in the pamphlet-- I didn't even have my CD yet! I was stunned!
Personal anecdote about this aside: The CD itself. To dive into the exterior-- it's a gorgeously put together album. It has a sleek cover and exterior and such a fun booklet included. The actual CD is colored as
if it were a record, adding for extra charm.
The music? Literally, what else is there to say but it rocks and is everything and more than I hoped for? The fact the first song is ADAMSKI Chuugakusei Nikki feels special too; It was the first Pinokiwo song I had
ever heard in a random compilation of pikopiko on YouTube! From that song alone, I was so hooked and needed to find more... It made me feel a bit emotional thinking how cool it was that this was the first song.
Honestly for anyone who was even just curious about piko piko kei in general, I think this album is a great introduction. The songs on it feel so varied and well put together. I don't think there's a single bad
song on this album. It really is a beautiful culmination of Uyuni's project up until this point. You can tell the hard work that went into compiling this album and each song flows so well with the next. It's just
a real easy listen and an absolute joy. It's hard to pick a favorite but I LOVEEE how Uyuni gets his vocals in Akai Yuki and I love the dream-like atmosphere of SODA Mizu.
